Kevin Kaatz

Kevin specializes in Roman history/digital humanities, and in particular, early Christianity and its interactions with Roman culture and interactions among different Christian groups.  He completed his Ph.D. in Ancient History at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia and has published four books, Hegemonius, Acta Archelai (The Acts of Archelaus) with M. Vermes, and S. N. C. Lieu  (2001), Early Controversies and the Growth of Christianity (2012), Voices of Early Christianity:  Documents from the Origins of Christianity (ed.,) (2013) and The Rise of Christianity:  History, Documents, and Key Questions ( January 2016).  His next project is a book with Prof. Linda Ivey on the experiences of Japanese Americans during WWII and internment (to be published in early 2017).  He has taught online for eleven years and just became a Master Reviewer for Quality Matters, a quality assurance non-profit for online course design.  His World History III online course won the Quality Online Teaching and Learning Award for 2014-2015 and he just received the Faculty Honors Award for 2015-2106.  Kevin is the Faculty in Residence for this Faculty Learning Community and was the Faculty in Residence for Peer Observation of Online Teaching in 2014-15.  He teaches courses in the history of the ancient world (Rome, Greece, Egypt, Early Christianity), the World Civilization survey courses, Digital History, and Historiography.  You can see his ancient history website here: 

 

Dr. Penny McCullagh hails from Canada and completed her undergraduate degree at SUNY Brockport where she became involved in research surrounding psychological factors and physical activity and has been active publishing since 1974. She completed her Master’s degree of University of Washington and her Ph.D. at University of Wisconsin. Since then she been on the faculty at UC Davis, Sacramento State University, University of Colorado and finally came to CSU East Bay as Department Chair of Kinesiology in 1999. She has worked diligently to enhance the research profile of the department as well an enhancing the opportunities for students. The major has grown from about 200 students to well over 800. She has published over 50 articles and book chapters, has made over 100 research presentation including numerous national and international invited talks and was recently named Outstanding Tenured Researcher for the 2015 Week of Scholarship at CSU East Bay. She has also been an active leader professionally serving as President of  four national associations including: the North American Society for Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, Association for Applied Sport Psychology, Division 47 of the American Psychological Association and most recently as President of the American Kinesiology Association. She is a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology.

Reza Akhavian

Dr. Akhavian received his Ph.D. (2015) and M.S. (2012) degrees in Civil Engineering (Construction Engineering and Management) from the University of Central Florida. He also holds a B.S. (2010) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tehran, Iran. His research focuses on the integrated solutions for technology-based decision-making in the architecture, engineering, construction, and facility management (AEC/FM) industry. In particular, he has research interests in design and development of methodologies using data-driven modeling and simulation, automation and robotics, wearable systems, machine learning, and process mining for (1) planning and monitoring infrastructure construction, (2) project management, and (3) building smart and sustainable cities. His professional experience includes working for Bentley Systems, Inc. and he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
