What exactly is "transforming" a course?

We are also creating our new/revised courses with the help of two rubrics-- QOLT (Quality Online Learning and Teaching) and Quality Matters.  Every two weeks we met and went through another section of the rubrics.

An important part of transforming our courses is alignment--not only course content with assessments, but course alignment with Program Learning Outcomes, General Education Learning Outcomes (if applicable), and Institutional Learning Outcomes.  We made sure to align two in each category for our newly designed courses.

Another aspect of creating a transformed course is using High Impact Practices (HIPs).  These can range from First-Year Seminars and Experiences, Common Intellectual Experiences, Learning Communities, Writing-Intensive Courses, Collaborative Assignments and Projects, Undergraduate Research, and Diversity/Global Learning.  Each of our courses needed to have two of these High Impact Practices included in the design.
