QOLT 6.1: Technological tools and resources employed support the student learning outcomes (Similar to QM 6.1)

Here is one example:

  • Creation of interactive maps showing migration patterns in Greek history. This fulfils three SLOs:  “To use digital tools to create scholarship and to investigate Greek history,” “Utilize basic analytic concepts for assembling, organizing, and interpreting historical evidence, and achieve digital literacy in accessing and presenting historical materials,” (PLO), and “Critically analyze Greek history through literature, archaeology, art, and through primary and secondary texts, both in your own work and that of your classmates.”

  • Creation of a wiki bibliography on Ancient Greece. “To examine Greek history from the Pre-Mycenaean Era through its destruction by the Romans,” “To critically analyze Greek history through literature, archaeology, art, and through primary and secondary texts,” and “To use digital tools to create scholarship and to investigate Greek history.”

  • A series of Blogs on specific topics, chosen by the students.  This fulfils two SLO’s:  “Improve Research skills through essay writing and blogs,” and “Critically analyze Greek history through literature, archaeology, art, and through primary and secondary texts.”

  • Website creation.  This fulfils “Use digital tools to create scholarship and to investigate Greek history.

Here is another example of 6.1:

I fulfill this requirement by using the discussion board for students to discuss the materials they read. Students are given detailed information regarding the format of the discussion assignments and the points allotted for these assignments.

And another from 6.1:

The textbook chosen is relevant to the course objectives to cover US History to 1900, and is up to date, (2016), concise, and comes with an online learning system which includes an e-book, primary sources, study tools, etc.

QOLT 6.3:  Technological tools and resources used in the course enable student engagement and active learning (similar to QM 6.2).

We have not created the course content, but I have included below an interactive video lecture I created for another online course.  I use these in all of my courses.  The videos include "tags" that allow the student to learn more information than what I can talk about in the lecture.

Here is another example for 6.3:

Here is an example from QOLT 6.4 (Similar to QM 6.4):  Instructor provides clear information regarding access to technology and related resources required incourse.

Students in History 3400 are given a description in the Syllabus of the learning materials needed, the tools external to the LMS and the LMS, and the equipment they will need to be able to access this course and its tools.

The textbook chosen was recently published (2016), is relevant to the course objectives to cover US History to 1900, and is up to date, concise, and comes with an online learning system which was also recently updated (2016) and includes an e-book, primary sources, study tools, etc.

From the Syllabus:

This is a 4 quarter unit fully-online course. Students are expected to devote a minimum of 9 to 12 hours per week to the readings and assignments. The CSUEB Blackboard learning management system, and the Cengage website, house the majority of our learning activities.

Technology Requirements:

You will need a computer with reliable internet access. You will also need to download, upload, and create content in software programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Reader, and video content viewers. Firefox browser is recommended for Blackboard. See the Blackboard course area called “Hints & Technology Info” for more information and assistance.

Required Materials:

Schultz, Kevin HIST4  (Wadsworth, Boston, 2016) & related Cengage learning website.

This is available at CSUEB Pioneer Bookstore bundled with Cengage online learning website which is required for this course. If you buy only the physical textbook somewhere other than the CSU bookstore, you will still need to purchase the corresponding Cengage website to complete your assignments. You may buy only the Cengage access and use the e-book provided there – go to the Cengage website for information on how to do this, using the course textbook information: http://www.cengage.com/us/. Check prices before you order from a source other than the Bookstore, which has the book bundled with the Cengage website, so you don’t end up paying more than you would if you ordered through the CSUEB Bookstore.

You must have the required materials to complete this course. See Course Announcements for more detailed instructions on the Cengage website and how to access it.
